So Long, and Thanks for All the Fish

On this day in 1984, my journey into the land of information technology began. Today, that journey comes to an end.

And no, before you ask, I am not becoming a luddite and swearing off technology (though some days I would like to), I am merely ending one chapter in my life so that a may begin a new chapter.

It has been a fantastic ride. I have met and worked with some amazing people from all over the planet, worked on some fascinating technology, and solved problems for companies around the globe.

It wasn’t always rainbows and unicorns, but for at the end of the day, the positives far outweighed the negatives by a substantial margin.

Looking back, I am astonished at the rate of change that has occurred in the last 38 years. The rate of technological innovation has increased at staggering pace in the last few years and attempts to keep up with the latest changes has been exhausting. If you are in the business, I am sure you know what I mean.

This lead met to the decision that maybe I should leave the technical discovery and information dissemination to the “new kids,” while I retire on my laurels and eat bon-bons all day.

So as of today, I will just be another user of technology. While I may post an occasional tip or trick that I learn, I will exit the consulting arena and with that exit, my technology-content delivery days will come to an end.

I will admit that there is more than a little sadness associated with this decision, but I think it is time to move on into different pastures. While they may not be greener, they are different, and very often, different is good.

Take care everyone.

Love, Mitch
